Dear Mayor Hayes:
The undersigned Bridgewater residents would like to bring a serious problem to your attention.
The undersigned Bridgewater residents would like to bring a serious problem to your attention.
As homeowners of the 600 block section of Washington Valley Road, roughly from Lot 1 to Lot 9, are facing a situation with high speed patterns that have risen to a dangerous level.
This short length of Washington Valley Road suffers from inadequate visibility from a bend on the west side to a hill on the east on this stretch of road. High speed traffic at all hours makes it perilous to get out on the road from our driveways as well as stressful when slowing down to turn into our driveways. Aggressive drivers pass in the direction of oncoming traffic or pull up close to your bumper rather than slowing down to allow us to turn into our driveways.
While the speed limit in this area is 40 mph, vehicles on average travel at speeds of 60 to 80 mph. It has become dangerous to attempt to retrieve mail from our mailboxes based on the speed that these vehicles travel at on this road.
We respectfully ask that you look into this problem as soon as possible before a tragedy occurs. The population of this area varies from children to the disabled and elderly, making it impossible for some of us to cross the road . If no action is taken, we fear that fatal accidents may be the result. There is already an impressive record of traffic accidents with the Bedminster and Bridgewater Police Departments.
School buses stop at Russett Lane in the mornings and afternoons with zero visibility from traffic coming up from the Pluckemin intersection.
Many of the homeowners gladly offer their driveways to the Police Dept. for the purposes of enforcing traffic laws.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter and would be happy to meet with you to discuss the situation in more detail. You may contact us at the Pardo residence, 908-658-9771.
Kind Regards,
